Growing up in the 90's I had a strong affinity for the Power Rangers. Watching it, playing it, LIVING IT! As I grew older I started watching less and less of it but my love for it didn't falter. Even in recent years ive started rewatching old episodes on Netflix. Behold Studios took their love for the sentai genre and made a game where you can live those memories of old.

Five Colored Fighters? Sign Me Up!

Chroma Squad is a sentai-inspired turn based RTS with some RPG elements . You take control of a group of stunt actors who quit their jobs as stand ins and decide to open their own studio to film their own competing TV show. You record seasons of episodes for a total of 5 seasons. Follow your director's cues and you'll have a growing audience and overflowing wallets. Fail to listen and you'll lose money and have no fans. You'll use the money you gain to upgrade your studio with lighting and better cameras that'll give you boosts in audience numbers or attack bonuses. You'll also use the money to better outfit your squad. The fans you gain are used with your marketing partners giving you access to have more boosts to things like money earned or items dropped. As the seasons progress the enemies you fight get tougher so upgrading your studio and squad become imperative.

$900? 150 fans? Live Tweeting? Not too bad.

This game is filled with comedic moments, the game is very self aware and consistently references how in a TV show they wouldn't do this or that. It makes fun of tropes associated with sentai such as over dramatic fights, horribly scripted bad guys, and stressing the power of friendship! It can seem like a little too much at times but it is exactly like the power rangers in that sense. Along with that it makes plenty of other references to other mediums resulting in some very funny moments.

It's okay, she's the OTHER kind of mermaid.

They game is easy enough to pick up and play especially if your familiar with turn based rts games. Even if your not and you're just a fan of the content its worth checking out. The controls are simple click where you want your person to attack or move. It is easy enough to play on a track pad which can usually be a bit of trouble for PC games.

Final Thoughts and Rating

Overall this game was something I enjoyed playing, I havent felt the urge to replay through the thing but that may have to do something with the slate of games I have piling up that I need play through. The game was enjoyable and I would recommend checking it out. This studio has made good games with this and Knights of Pen and Paper. Im excited for what else this studio might be doing in the future.

4 out of 5 stars. Go check this out!
